President Trump V. The Blacklivesmatter Protesters

How many #Blacklives matter protest is it going to take to make actual change in our country before President Trump starts a warzone on our country? This is an outcry to all of the innocent black lives that have been lost to men in blue who thought they “fit the description”

During and after slavery times, police officers weren’t just “peacekeepers”; they were also slave catchers who would apprehend runaway slaves and punish them with no mercy. And guess what; that law hasn’t changed in the last 200 years. Now, in the present day, police brutality along with social injustice has been a problem for the black community ever since.

Despite overcoming slavery, earning the right to vote, or getting a black man in the office, our country still finds a way to dehumanize black lives with grotesque videos of police brutality, lynching, and incarceration. George Floyd, a 46 year old security guard and father, was killed by police officer, Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes. Major backlash surfaced after Floyd’s death, causing worldwide protest and riots, which in turn, provoked the deployment of the National Guard in multiple states.

While this chaos is unfolding in our nation, President Trump is lounging luxuriously in the White House with the lights off, completely cut off from the world. His claims of having no responsibility for the 100,000 Covid-19 deaths or the riots in multiple cities have turned the country into disarray. All he has done is play the blame game on social media and criticize the State governors for not “Dominating” the protesters. His ludicrous threat to send the military and self proclaiming President of “Law and Order” have caused majority of Americans to believe him to be a dictator. He has no sincerity for black lives or minorities in general; only to the people that are loyal to him and “support” his radical ideals.

This is why the people protest; because if WE want to live in a country where we have the majority of support but the wrong people in office, then it is up to us to utilize our 1st amendment rights in addition to our right to vote in order to make change to our country. The President can praise the stock market and economy as much as he wants, but in truth, the stock market is only applied to the rich and highly favored. In fact, the billionaires have regained $565 billion in wealth since the pandemic, while thousands of people are dying and billions are unemployed with no money. In addition, the rich won’t complain because the system has favored them, including the police force. His whole administration is willing to lie to the people to their face about tear gassing a crowd of PEACEFUL protesters, along with hurting a cameraman from Australia, in front of the White House just so the President can get a photo-op with the Bible in his hand when there is video evidence that clearly proves otherwise. Why must the people that demand change get pepper sprayed, tear gassed, and shoved aside while the republican protesters that crowded over hospitals, spat at nurses for doing their job, and not wearing mask or practicing social distancing, get what they want because they wanted a haircut?

In conclusion, if the republicans are able to get what they want, then so can we. As a black man myself, I urge you to join the fight for justice. Not just for George Floyd, but to rewrite to justice system so that there will be no more good men like him dying on the streets.

I want to take this moment to commemorate all of the Houstonians who went downtown and protested Justice for George Floyd. And our Chief of police, Art Acevedo, for walking with the people and showing an example of what peaceful protest are suppose to look like. #blacklivesmatter #Houston
